about our history

Beginnings

Founded by Pastor Mark DeBehnke in 1987, Believer’s Victory Church was one of the first spirit-filled Word of Faith churches in the Lake Worth community. From day one, it was Pastor’s Mark’s vision to reach, teach and keep all who came in search for the Lord. There were many challenges at first; with classes being held at the Haverhill Town Hall, set up and removal of church equipment and cleaning before and after each service was quite the task! The first children’s ministry classes were held in the hall’s tiny kitchen, and further on, inside a bus in the parking lot. It took a lot of hard work, dedication and perseverance on Pastor Mark and Associate Pastor Norm Richards, but as always, God’s faithfulness prevailed and the church continued to grow. In 2002, after several years of growth and much searching and prayer, a beautiful church building was purchased in Lake Worth, which is our current church home.

About Pastor Mark

Mark didn’t truly find salvation until he was a young adult. It happened as he watched one of Rev. Billy Graham’s crusades on TV that he understood the emptiness of his life and admitted his need for a savior and asked Jesus to be the Lord of his life. In his desire to live a Christian life, Mark volunteered to work for Youth For Christ in Florida and served that organization for five years. He later attended South Florida Bible Training Center before becoming a pastor and starting BVC. He prayed forcefully and with absolute faith in God’s ability and desire to hear and answer. Pastor Mark always went to the Word in making any decisions, waiting on God for answers. He put God first in all things in his life, and his ministry was marked with manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit! On June 9, 2004, Pastor Mark went home to be with Jesus. We teach best by example, and that’s what Pastor Mark did, he showed Jesus to the world in how he lived his life and most especially in the way he loved people. It was Pastor Mark’s desire that his sister, Peggy lead the church after his death. Having served alongside him for many years as his “right hand” he knew she would carry out the vision God had given him so long before. Peggy and her husband Scott now lead BVC. The vision given to Mark is now being carried out by them.
